Wedding = $$$

Since we’re doing the wedding thing (at some date in the future yet to be determined) we thought we’d best start pricing the elements involved. So far that’s turned out to be quite the eye-opener. As one of my married friends put it: “When they hear that word, it’s like they think you’ve just won Tattslotto and want to share the wealth”. The entire wedding industry appears to be built on a simple principle: “Take all their money.” Suddenly the vows inclusion of “for richer or poorer” have more relevance.

That’s the conclusion we’ve drawn quickly from looking at the cost of wedding invitations, flowers, reception centres and all the other associated rubbish that goes with nuptials.

One florist in Moonee Ponds sells small bunches of roses for $16 if you want to put them in a vase. Two would make a decent bouquet size. Ah, but you see, if you wanted to get a wedding bouquet you’re apparently looking in the range of $180 - $350. For flowers!?!? They didn’t even grow them! Just bought them in! And they want how much?!?!?

We managed to fall out of the store without choking and then ran like hell. Pay that much? Do they think we are SPOTDs?
