Real-life Frogger arcade game

It’s been a long time between SPOTDs, but this is one that actually made me feel was worth passing along to you.

Coming home tonight on the tram, I got to the stop near my house and was about to step out when a car came racing down the road, driving past the stopped tram with it’s doors open, ignoring the tram wildly dinging it’s bell, and forcing me to leap back into the tram rather than get run over. I, naturally, yelled some abuse at the driver, then rechecked the traffic and got off the tram.

The car then stopped about 100m down the road, which made me a little concerned since I figured that the driver was going to come and have a go at me for yelling abuse at him. I quickly realised that it was not his intention to do so, only to do a little shopping and he was parking the car to cross the road to get to the shops on the other side.

However, it was 5:30pm, and he was headed northward on Sydney Rd, which is a clearway at that time to allow two lanes of cars to move freely. Of course, the fact he parked his car reduced the number of lanes quite drastically, and the drivers behind him all laid on their horns, and rightly so. He did not appear to really notice them in his quest to cross the road though.

To make matters worse, he was standing beside the driver’s door, which put him in very close range to the passing traffic, since they were trying to fit into the remainder of the lane by pushing the next lane over a little. Therefore, several of the cars passed within two feet of him. One car came even closer, probably about a foot from hitting him, not having realised he was parked until the last minute, and it laid on it’s horn in disgust for what he had done by parking. Irritated by their horn, the guy threw the item in his hands at their car to abuse them in return. The item? An open can of Melbourne Bitter beer.

So, how many rules was this guy on a mission to break?

  • Passing a tram stopped at a tram stop with passengers getting on and off.
  • Parking in a clearway zone.
  • Obstructing traffic by standing on the road.
  • Attempting to cross the road within about 15m of a pedestrian crossing with lights.
  • Drinking beer while driving.

Some people just deserve to be removed from the general population, but unfortunately, he made it to the other side of the road without being struck down and killed.

Those SPOTDs just keep a-comin’…
